Hero's Journey Movie Project (Assessment)

Welcome, members of the Windsor 6 team!

Today, you are going to embark on an unforgettable journey that explores modern movies and the Hero’s Journey. At this point, most of you are masters of the Hero’s Journey. You can identify and explain the stages and archetypes found in the monomyth.

Today is your final assessment for this Learning Target: I can identify and explain the stages and archetypes of the Hero’s Journey.

You’ll be watching a movie which follows the Hero’s Journey: The Lion King, Mulan, Wizard of Oz or Star Wars.

Your challenge is to identify the stages and archetypes of the Hero’s Journey in your movie. Next, you will create a digital storyboard - like the ones we made for Jason and the Quest of the Golden Fleece.

Here’s the breakdown:
Step 1Movie Note Catcher (During the Movie)
As you watch the movie, write down the stages and archetypes that you find. Fill in the “notes” box with any information that helps explain the stage (action, dialogue, setting, characters, etc.).

Step 2: Rough Draft Storyboard (After the Movie)
Use your notes from the movie to make a rough draft storyboard. You can do this on a blank or lined piece of paper. Remember: Your storyboard should include characters, dialogue, labels and summaries (Just like the ones we made for Jason and the Quest of the Golden Fleece).

Step 3: Digital Storyboard
Once you’ve worked out all of the details in your rough draft. Begin working on your digital storyboard. Go to Storyboard.com/classroom and log in to your account. Forgot your password? E-mail me (shaddr@portlandschools.org) and I’ll reset it for you.

Next Steps:
You will continue working on these storyboards in Mrs. MacDonald’s class next week. The due date will be announced on Monday.

REMINDER: This is an assessment of your skills and knowledge. This should be work work based on your ideas. Don’t share answers or copy ideas from other people.

Alright, without further explanation…. I believe it’s time to start the movie!
